Bringing a rescue dog home is one of the best days of your life. It is also the day the questions start.

Is that cough normal? Why won't she eat? Is this limp something to worry about, or something to watch? Should I be calling a vet right now, or waiting until Monday?

Most new adopters end up doing what everyone does. They Google it at 11pm, spiral for an hour, and either drive to the emergency clinic for something that turned out to be fine or talk themselves out of going for something that was not.

We want to change that for every dog coming out of Street Dog Hero.

Now every person who adopts or fosters a dog through Street Dog Hero gets a full year of Luna Premium, free.

• Video calls with veterinary professionals. For the moments when someone needs to actually see what you are seeing.
• 24/7 AI triage built by veterinarians. Describe a symptom or send a photo and find out whether this is a wait-and-see, a call-your-vet-tomorrow, or a go-now.
• A longevity plan built for your specific dog. Age, breed, weight, and history, turned into a plan for keeping them healthy for as long as possible.

Why the first year

The first twelve months after adoption are the most expensive and the most uncertain, especially for a dog who has come off the street or out of an overcrowded shelter.

There is the settling-in period, where nobody knows yet what is normal for this dog. There is the stretch of unfamiliar symptoms that may be nothing or may be something. And there is the reality that every one of those questions currently costs either an appointment fee or a night of worry.

Adopters should not have to choose between spending money they do not have and lying awake wondering if they missed something. That is the gap Luna was built to close.

Anyone who has worked in rescue knows the other side of this. Adoption coordinators and foster leads field a constant stream of health questions long after a dog goes home. Evenings, weekends, holidays. Questions they care deeply about and are not always the right person to answer.

Luna gives those adopters somewhere real to go. Our hope is that it takes some weight off a team that is already stretched thin doing work that matters, and lets them spend more of their time on the next dog who needs out.

About Street Dog Hero

Founded in Bend in 2017, Street Dog Hero is a foster-based 501(c)(3) rescue with a global mission and a local heart. They pull dogs from the streets abroad and from overcrowded shelters closer to home, place them in foster care, cover their veterinary needs, and adopt them into families across the Pacific Northwest. They also run free and low-cost spay and neuter clinics both internationally and here in Central Oregon.

It is exactly the kind of organization we wanted our first rescue partnership to be built around.

Why we are doing this

Luna was built by a family of veterinarians. Our founder's parents have spent their careers in exam rooms, and a good portion of that career has been spent talking worried owners through problems that a five minute conversation could have solved days earlier.

That is the whole idea behind Luna. Put a veterinary professional within reach of every pet owner, at the moment they actually need one, instead of three days and one panic later.

Rescue dogs deserve that most of all.

If you have adopted or fostered through Street Dog Hero, you will receive your access code directly from the Street Dog Hero team. Redeem it in the Luna app and your year starts immediately.
